"Snow" = no bread, milk or eggs

I'm not sure what we'll get, but I am ready.

The bread and milk aisles were almost empty at the grocery store when I got there around 3 o'clock this afternoon.  The check-out lines were about 30-35 minutes long.  Typical for a storm of this magnitude.  We haven't had a storm of this strength since 2000.   That was the "Blizzard of the Century."

I made this challah before we lose any power here.  Braiding bread is a new technique that I'd like to get better at.  I like how this round loaf turned out.

See ya soon.
Keep warm and safe everyone in Winter Storm Pax's track.  Keep your fingers crossed that we don't lose power or any trees decide to come down through the roof.

I guess I'll work on my hexies if that happens.

Celtic Solstice

I finished my quilt top just a few days ago.  I put myself into a month-long hibernation and worked on Bonnie Hunters Mystery pretty much non-stop.

I stated working on my quilt right around the beginning of January.  It's been a pretty neat winter here for me.  I love the cold and I love the snow.  When we get the white powdery stuff here in the South, life stops.  I don't go out anywhere and make-do with what food and goodies we have here.

It's fun to get creative making soups, stoups and stews.  I also got re-acquainted with my bread machine.  There is nothing like the aroma of a fresh loaf of bread baking.

I also used my AccuQuilt cutter almost exclusively for my triangles.

Amazing how our weather can go from almost 60 degrees to under 32 in one day.

Trail Mix Quilt

With all the chatter in one of my on-line groups, I thought I'd share with you my Trail Mix quilt.

It may have started out as a Leader and Ender project, but due to my "enthusiasm",  I always end up making a Leader and Ender quilt from start to finish.  This is going to be #1 in my 2014 UFO challenge.  It's all done except that it needs to be quilted.

Bonnie Hunters 2013 Mystery

I am gathering up my tools, going through my fabric stash and getting ready to start this year's mystery quilt.

My Summer so far

Not much sewing or quilting going on around here this summer.

I have spent most of my time in the kitchen.

Summer Bounty at my local farmers market

Each week I give myself $25 bucks to blow spend at my local farmer's market.  So far this summer I have made about 10 quarts of pickles.  Lots salsa and lots of green smoothies.  It's a fun personal challenge to see how much $25 can buy.  I go twice a week.  Nothing tastes better than a fresh field grown tomato.

Or sippin' smoothies in my porch on my Easy Street Quilt

Some Gave All

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze;
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform,
So young, so tall, so proud;
With hair cut square and eyes alert,
He’d stand out in any crowd.

I thought… how many men like him
Had fallen through the years?
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers’ tears?

How many pilots’ planes shot down
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves
No, Freedom is not Free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still;
I listened to the bugler play,
And felt a sudden chill;

I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant “Amen”
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend;

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea,
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No. Freedom is not Free!
